Find out what an irrigation system would cost in your garden

Put in automatic lawn irrigation yourself and keep the installation cost down. Mark out your garden and we'll draw up an individual design and work out what the kit comes to.

The brains of the system: GRAAS LawnCare

Every kit comes with a lawn irrigation controller we build ourselves. The number of zones is chosen to suit your garden.

GRAAS LawnCare lawn irrigation controller
Runs from your phoneThe controller joins your home Wi-Fi and the watering shows up in the GRAAS app. You can change the schedule from anywhere, without walking out to the box.
Every zone on its ownEach part of the garden gets its own watering time and frequency. Grass growing in shade needs less water than the sunny side.
Watches the forecastThe controller checks the forecast itself and skips a watering before rain. Nothing to remember, nothing to cancel by hand.
Takes sensorsAdd a soil moisture sensor and the system holds off while the ground is still damp; a pressure sensor warns you if the water pressure drops.
Rain exceptions per zoneChosen zones can be told to ignore the rain sensor. Under a patio roof, along a house wall or in a greenhouse no rain gets in, so those spots keep watering while everything else stops.
Runs the pump tooIf you're on a borehole or a tank, the controller switches the pump on only while watering and off again afterwards. No separate relay box needed.

Sensors: optional, but worth it

The system waters to a schedule and to the forecast. Sensors add what is actually happening: how much moisture is in the soil, what the weather is doing, and what pressure is in the pipe. You can add them now or at any point later.

Three steps to an automatic irrigation system

We prepare the design and the kit. All that's left for you is to install it, following instructions written for your garden.

How the system goes in

Pipes are laid 25–30 cm down in a narrow trench. Before you dig, it's worth lifting the turf in slabs, so it's easier to put back once the work is done.

Sprinklers sit on flexible risers, so their height can still be adjusted after everything is in. All the zone valves go into one box whose lid finishes level with the lawn. The control cable runs from that box to the controller in the same trench.

The kit comes with fitting instructions drawn up from your own design. Inside is a detailed plan of the garden with measurements: where every pipe goes, how far apart the sprinklers sit, where the valve box belongs and how the wiring connects. The work is set out in a clear order, so you can put the system in yourself. If anything is unclear, we'll talk it through on the phone.

Sprinkler in the lawnThe sprinkler body sits in the lawn itself. Between waterings it retracts, so it never gets in the mower's way.

What customers say

Why fit it yourself? Labour is roughly half of what an installed system costs. Do it yourself and you're left paying for the materials and the design. No special machinery is needed either — a spade, a tape measure and the instructions will do it.
What's in the box? Every material, a plan of the garden, and fitting instructions written for your particular design, with your lawn's real measurements in them. If anything is unclear, we'll talk it through on the phone.
We work remotely. The design is prepared remotely, so there's no waiting around for someone to come out to you. The kit ships as soon as the design is ready.
